Who are the leaders of tomorrow?

Hello everyone,

Future visionaries and their impact on our lives clearly resonate with teenagers.

At this summer’s Shine School Media Awards, we asked our shortlisted students to select this year’s ‘designated topic’ award for the competition. This is where we set a subject and request entries specifically towards a special prize.

The winner by some distance – and our topic for 2025 is…

  • THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW

The award will go to an entry in any idiom, be it a feature, a poem, a piece of artwork or a photograph, that best explores and interprets this fascinating and wide-ranging subject.

Here are some ideas you might like to consider – but don’t let us limit your imagination…

  • A journalism project covering an election or about a local leader
  • Profiles of inspiring figures such as a sports captain or someone who leads a team
  • Viewpoints about controversy, corruption or achievement
  • A conversational podcast about leaders, leadership and making a difference
  • An incredible photo or art piece that captures a leader in action

There’s so much potential and with events local, national or international, unfolding in real time, right now, this term, we can’t wait to see what your students come up with.

By the way – a note about the photo above. At left is Liz Hunt, Assistant Editor, Features & Comment at the Daily Mail, presenting the award for the Editor of the Year to Diya, a student at Putney High in south west London at this year’s awards in July.
