We held our first Shine Roadshow event on 4th November, which was kindly hosted by George Barrett at Ermysted’s Grammar School in Skipton who won Best Newspaper in 2019 for their first publication, created from scratch by pupils using Microsoft Publisher and a lot of creative talent.

As the April entry deadline approaches, the Shine team are thinking of you and know you are busy busy.

If so – this is the perfect opportunity for all budding journalists and reporters and pupils working towards a career in print, publishing and graphic design. The Shine competition could change your students’ lives!

We often find that the Spring half term is a pivotal time for our competition entrants. Ideas have been formulated, plans made but sometimes things can fall by the wayside, particularly with the demands of everyday life.

This post comes as encouragement to press ahead.

Our New Year’s resolution here at Shine is to make our competition categories and the entry form more inclusive, clear and user-friendly this year. With this in mind I’m excited to announce that we’ve have re-defined the following categories:

• Best Design and Layout has been re-named Best Print and Design
• Best Feature has changed to Best Stand-Alone Piece
• Best Business Strategy has changed to Best Marketing Strategy

It’s the week before Christmas, and everyone is looking forward to having some time at home with their families.

Whichever community we live in, this holiday is traditionally a time for people to get together and share their common values.
